RADFORD, VA.- Appalachian State University women's tennis was unable to keep pace with Radford Tuesday afternoon, as the Highlanders snapped the Mountaineers' four-match winning streak, dropping ASU to 6-4 on the season, while RU improves to an even 3-3.

The Black and Gold dropped two of three doubles matches to give Radford the early 1-0 match advantage.

The duo of Olivia Stannard and Ellie Linsell were impressive at the number one doubles position as they defeated the team of Ivana Tomaic and Mirna Matic in convincing fashion, winning 8-5. Unfortunately, the other two doubles teams could not follow suit as they both were unable to come away with victories.

Blakeley Bean and Gisela Fernandez dropped a tough 8-6 decision to their competitors at the number two doubles spot, while Laura Janke and Jennifer Ansari fell short as well at the number three spot, losing 8-2.

Despite solid efforts no Mountaineers were able to pick up wins in singles action.

Linsell suffered a two set loss at the number one spot, falling 6-2. 6-3 while Ansari lost in two sets as well at the number two position.

Stannard and Caroline Mauch both posted strong play but both were not able to hang on for wins, each falling at the three and four spots.

Capping off singles play, Bean fell to Sarah Tegner 6-3, 6-3 at the number five position and Fernandez was defeated in three tight sets at the six spot.

Continuing with its road stint, Appalachian squares off against South Dakota State, Friday March 12 in Orlando, Fla.
