BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women’s golf head coach
Heather Brown announced the signings of
Kristina Boo and
Rumbidzai Masamvu for the upcoming season on Thursday.
“I am excited about the 2009-10 season,” said Brown. “Signing two international players will build on the positive direction of our team. These girls along with the returning roster, bring great promise for the program. They represent the beginning of what I hope to be a very strong incoming class of players.”
Boo hails from Hassleholm, Sweden, where she posted an average round score of 81 in high school at Hassleholms Tekniska Skola. Her top finish came in the form of an individual title at the Kristianstad tournament.
Her sister, Karin, played golf at Montana’s Rocky Mountain College. The daughter of Bodil and Karl-Gustav Boo, Kristina also plays handball.
Masamvu is a native of Harare, Zimbabwe and ranks among the top golfers in the country. The 2008 Zimbabwe Ladies national stroke play champion was also the 2006-08 champion at her local club.
The graduate of Dominican Convent High School finished in fifth place at the regional all-Africa Challenge in 2009 after placing sixth the previous year. She lists her tournament average as 79 and placed first in the nation in 2006 in the championship division Order of Merit
Rumbidzai is the daughter of Patience and Kennedy Masamvu, and the younger sister of Roger and Tarisai. She also plays squash.
The Mountaineers are led by seniors
