BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men’s golf will tee off in 12 tournaments this year, including three in North Carolina, head coach Bill Dicus announced on Monday.

The Mountaineers open the fall schedule at the Raines Developmental Group Intercollegiate at the Country Club of South Carolina. The Florence, S.C. club  serves as the site of the Southern Conference Championship for the second year in a row.

From there, Appalachian heads to the Sea Trail Intercollegiate in Sunset Beach, N.C., where the Apps placed eighth out of 18 teams a year ago. Senior Casey Johnson tied for sixth place at the event in 2008.

ASU makes the first of two trips to the Mission Inn Golf Course in October for the Mission Inn College Classic in Howey in the Hills, Fla. The Mountaineers finished seventh of 15 teams last year.

On Oct. 12-13, ASU heads to River Run Country Club for the Davidson College Invitational before closing out the fall semester at Western Carolina’s Hummingbird Intercollegiate, held at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.

The spring opens with a March 8-9 trip to the North/South Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla., where the Apps placed sixth last season. A week later, the team travels back to Mission Inn for the Spring Fling Intercollegiate.

The Furman Intercollegiate is next on the slate, in Greenville, S.C. on March 19-21. ASU again hosts the University Cup on April 4 at the Morganton, N.C. Mimosa Hills Country Club.

The final tune-up before the SoCon Tournament is the Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.

The league title will be awarded in Florence, S.C. on April 18-20.

The Mountaineers close out the season at Virginia’s Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va. on May 1-2. Last season, ASU tied for fifth place at the rain-shortened event.
