SKILLMAN, N.J.- Appalachian State University women's tennis players Caroline Mauch and Olivia Stannard were named ITA scholar athletes announced the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Friday afternoon. To earn the award the student-athletes must have been a varsity letter-winner, posted a 3.5 grade point average or higher and been enrolled at their current institution for at least two semesters.

Mauch, a senior, had a team-best 13-10 overall record during the 2009 season, including a stout 4-1 mark at the number three singles position and a 4-2 record at the number six singles spot. The Durhan, N.C. native is a psychology major and holds an 3.95 GPA.

Stannard, a sophomore, went 5-14 in singles action during the 2009 campaign, and 8-13 with her doubles partner at the number one doubles spot. Her best singles play came at the number six spot where she went 3-5. The Chittaway Point, Australia native is a psychology major and has an 3.52 GPA.

The Southern Conference was well represented on the ITA scholar athlete list as UNC Greensboro had seven student-athletes earn the honor, Georgia Southern had five, Elon and Furman both placed four on the list, Chattanooga had three and College of Charleston had one.
