SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Freshman Brittney Caudle was named SoCon Runner of the Month for the month of September, the league announced Wednesday.
The latest accolade caps a highly successful opening month of Caudle's career in the Black and Gold. In her first collegiate race, Caudle finished third at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone with a time of 18:13 -- the third fastest 5k in school history by a freshman. Caudle followed her impressive debut with a first-place finish at the Mountaineer Open, in the process posting the 10th fastest 5k in school history and setting a new freshman record with a time of 17:53.25.
The Middletown, Md. native was named SoCon runner of the Week twice in September, taking home weekly honors for the weeks of September 9 and September 23.
Caudle and the Mountaineers will be back in action October 16, when they host the Blue Ridge Open at the Don Kennedy Trail in Boone.
