BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State field hockey's Denise Adams was honored as the NorPac Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The Aiea, Hawaii native made her first start in goal of the season on Senior Day, and filled in admirably for the NorPac's leading goalkeeper Bridgette Street. In her final home game in the Black and Gold, Adams posted 10 saves, including two dramatic stops in the first overtime to keep the Mountaineers alive.
Although Appalachian eventually fell in 2-1 in the second overtime to Longwood, Adams' strong presence in the net kept the Apps in the game until the very end.
Adams and her teammates will return to action Thursday, taking on host Stanford in the first round of the NorPac Conference Tournament in Palo Alto, Calif.
