STATESBORO, Ga. - Collin Taylor had a perfect day in the net and Lee Rutter knocked in his first goal of the season as Appalachian State University men's soccer closed out the 2009 campaign with a 1-0 win at Georgia Southern.
The win bolstered the Mountaineers' record to 8-8-1 and 3-4 in league play. The Eagles fall to 0-15-1 and 0-6 in SoCon play.
Appalachian recorded 15 shots to just GSU's six while ASU had six shots on goal to GSU's two. Luis Calzadilla had three shots for ASU while Austin Steele and Whitt Carlisle had two apiece for Georgia Southern.
Rutter found the back of the net in the 17th minute on a pass from Steven Sassano to provide the winning margin.
It was Taylor's third shutout of the year and moves his overall record to 6-5-1 on the year.
The win closes out ASU's season on a four-game winning streak and having won five of their last six games. The win also gives head coach Shaun Pendleton his 21st-straight non-losing season.
