Wrestling Signs Two For 2010-11

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University wrestling announced the signing of two student-athletes for the 2010-11 season, head coach JohnMark Bentley announced Friday. Acton Pifer and Chris Johnson will join ASU in the fall of 2010.

Acton Pifer (141, Marietta, Ga./Lassiter)

A four-year letter winner at Lassiter, Pifer earned all-county and all-state honors as a junior. He earned a sixth place finish at Nationals at 135. He holds a career record of 121-16.

Pifer wrestles for the club GNWA Gorillas. He earned third place at the Southeast Regionals in 2007 and fourth place in 2008. He was coached at Lassiter by Steve Day and by Cliff Fretwell and Lee Roper at GNWA. Roper was a Southern Conference champion for Appalachian in 2003.


Chris Johnson (133, Hillsborough, N.C./Orange)
Johnson was named the conference Wrestler of the Year as a junior and also won the Heart and Desire award. He earned letters in wrestling, cross country, soccer, track and field and lacrosse.
