Wrestling Takes On Top Programs at Northeast Duals

TROY, N.Y. - Appalachian State University wrestling heads to New York on Saturday to compete in the Northeast Duals.

The Mountaineers will compete in their first four dual matches of the season after competing in two tournaments to start the year.

Appalachian wrestles against Sacred Heart, Binghamton, Penn and No. 7 Nebraska.

About the Mountaineers

ASU has had strong outings at the Michigan State Open and the Keystone Classic, winning a weight class at each event. Austin Trotman won the 174 pound weight class at the MSU Open and Frank Celorrio won at 133 at the Keystone Classic last Sunday.

The two are not the only ones to have good showings, as Dylan Temple has a fifth and third place finish to his credit and a team-high nine wins.

Sophomores Mike Kessler and Kyle Blevins are tied for second on the team in wins with seven, with Blevins picking up a fifth and third place finish so far while Kessler has a fifth and fourth place to his credit.

About the Pioneers

Sacred Heart has a 1-2 dual record on the year, with losses to Rugers (43-0) and Drexel (30-7) and a 28-15 win over Stevens Tech. Pat Feely (125) leads the Pioneers with three wins.

About the Bearcats

Binghamton has wrestled the most of any of the three teams ASU wrestles on Saturday. The Bearcats are 1-1 in dual matches with a 20-12 loss to No. 24 Michigan State and a 50-0 win over Davidson. Anwar Goeres (141) and Donnie Vinson (149) have 10 wins apiece while Matt Kaylor (165) leads the team with 11 wins.

About the Cornhuskers

Nebraska is ranked No. 7 in the country and is 1-0 on the season with a 26-17 win over Wisconsin. Jordan Burroughs is ranked No. 1 at 157 while Stephen Dwyer is No. 5 at 174 and Craig Brester is No. 2 at 197. All three are 1-0 on the year.
