Men's Soccer Earns NSCAA Team Academic Award

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's soccer earned the NSCAA team academic award for the 2008-09 season, the NSCAA announced Tuesday.

A total of 570 teams won the award, including 141 men's teams. To qualify for the award, a team must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, ASU had a 3.24.

Appalachian was one of three Southern Conference schools earn the honor, joining ASU was Elon and Wofford. Of the three SoCon schools, ASU had the highest GPA.

Since the inception of the NSCAA team academic award in 1998, head coach Shaun Pendleton has had his team's on the list every year.

It is the second-straight season the Mountaineers have won the award.
