JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Appalachian State men's track and field will be in action this weekend at East Tennessee State, as they will take the quick trip across the mountain to compete in the Niswonger Invitational.

The meet will showcase some of the world’s top collegiate, post collegiate, and professional athletes. Over 1,500 athletes from 75 teams will compete in the two-day event. Some notable universities making the trip to Johnson City include: Alabama (SEC), Samford and Western Carolina from the SoCon, UAB (from Conference USA), Gardner-Webb and Winthrop from the Big South.

ASU will be looking to build upon the momentum gained at last Friday’s Appalachian Open, where five Mountaineers established new personal best marks.

Appalachian also cleaned up in the SoCon’s track and field awards this week, sweeping both weekly honors. Freshman Alex Taylor was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after setting a new Holmes Center record for an ASU athlete in the 800m. Sophomore Darius Purcell claimed this week’s Field Athlete of the Week after posting a new personal indoor best of 6-10.25 in the high jump.

The Niswonger Invitational is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday morning and will conclude at 7 p.m. Saturday. Check GoASU.com for full results from this weekend’s track and field action and all the latest in Appalachian athletics.
