Appalachian State (7-2) enters the weekend after a sweep of Presbyterian College on Saturday. In Saturday's victory, Appalachian freshman Clare Cox polished off a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2, while senior Jennifer Ansari followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3. Maintaining the top spot, senior Ellie Linsell posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory as well and remains unbeaten this season, while newcomer Brianna Armellino picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4. Jessica Thaggard and Gabriela Celi rounded out singles action with victories.
Chattanooga (8-2) is coming off a 7-0 victory against Jacksonville State on Feb. 23. The Lady Mocs began the season with three straight home victories, before sweeping Lipscomb on the road. The Lady Mocs dominated two more 7-0 home matches against Austin Peay and UT Martin before picking up a second road win at UAB (5-1) .
Chattanooga's top tandem, Kaylene Chadwell and Kayla Nurik have posted a 10-2 mark overall; 5-1 in the team's No. 2 doubles position and 1-0 in No. 1. Kelsey Coots and Kayla Jones also hold a 5-1 record in No. 1 doubles. Individually, Nurik and Jones are each 8-0 on the year. Nurik has played exclusively at the No. 1 spot, while Jones has six wins in No. 3 singles and two wins at No. 4. Chadwell has posted a 7-1 record playing at No. 2., and Coots has split her time between the No. 4 and 5 positions.
Looking ahead, women's tennis will travel to Samford on March 3 for a noon match against the Bulldogs.
