Price, a redshirt freshman from Reston, Va., leads Appalachian State with 26 receptions for 361 yards and five touchdowns this year, despite playing only three of the team’s first five games. With only three games played, he does not qualify for the official NCAA statistical rankings, but if he did, he would rank fifth nationally in receiving yards (120.3/gm) and sixth in receptions (8.7/gm) while leading the Southern Conference in both categories. Despite playing just three games, his 361 total receiving yards are good for 27th nationally.
The reigning SoCon Freshman of the Week has registered at least 100 receiving yards in each of his three appearances this season, matching Appalachian’s all-time record for consecutive 100-yard receiving games. Brian Quick (2011), DaVon Fowlkes (2004) and Bob Agle (1968) are the only other Mountaineers to ever record three-consecutive 100-yard receiving games, feats that they accomplished as seniors.
Price, who is the only freshman in Appalachian State history with multiple 100-yard receiving games, is the only wideout on the 16-player Rice Award watch list. The Jerry Rice Award will be presented at The Sports Network’s annual FCS Awards Banquet on Dec. 17 in Philadelphia.
