BOONE, N.C. - Members of the Appalachian State Women's Basketball team joined with the High Country community and Operation Christmas Child to help spread holiday cheer to children around the world.

Head Coach Darcie Vincent and the Mountaineers spent Saturday at the Boone chapter of Operation Christmas Child, where they hand-picked toys and suppplies to fill shoeboxes, which will be shipped to less fortunate children around the world. In addition to packaging the items, the team worked together taping and preparing each box for processing and shipping.

Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse, aims to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

As this week has been marked "National Collection Week" for Operation Christmas Child, packages from around the nation will be collected and sent to various Samaritan's Purse processing centers to be distributed throughout the globe.

For more information on providing donations, drop-off locations and collection hours, visit the Operation Christmas Child website or call 1-800-353-5949.
