BOONE, N.C. - Both Appalachian State University men's and women's soccer programs earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year, announced on Friday by the association.

App State is one of 148 schools and one of five Southern Conference programs to have both their men's and women's teams receive the honor.

Appalachian's men's soccer team ranked in the top 25 in the nation with a 3.27, matching Southern Conference opponent, Wofford. App State and WC recorded the highest marks within the conference.

The women's soccer team finished with the top programs across the nation, carrying a 3.29 GPA. Appalachian was one of six programs within the SoCon to record a GPA higher than 3.25.

Joining the Mountaineers from the SoCon to have both men's and women's programs were: Davidson, Elon, Furman and UNC Greensboro.
