BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State women's basketball has moved to 6-1 after a 79-47 win in its conference opener against Georgia Southern Monday night. 

Up next, the Mountaineers will step back for a non-conference matchup against Atlantic Sun opponent East Tennessee State University. The Apps are 41-30 all-time against East Tennessee State, and have won the last three matchups dating back to 2009. They'll strive for a fourth consecutive victory against the Buccaneers on their road to the post-season.

Here's a look at the latest news and notes surrounding the team as the season progresses.


Courtney Freeman can now count herself among Appalachian State's all-time leading scorers as the 22nd member of the women's basketball 1,000 Point Club. Freeman dropped 24 points against Georgia Southern in the Mountaineers' conference opener on Monday night, accomplishing the career feat with 1:18 remaining in the game.


Courtney Freeman proves she's a triple threat this week earning three Southern Conference honors on Tuesday. Freeman grabbed both SoCon weekly honors for Player of the Week and Student-Athlete of the Week, following her 24 point contribution to the Mountaineers' 77-73 overtime win at Xavier along with her impressive academic record, which includes maintaining a 3.79 GPA in her studies as a Healthcare Management major.

Freeman was also named the SoCon's Athlete of the Month for November. 

Just seven games into the season, Mountaineers have broken major records, while others strive to set new personal highs. Here's the lastest from the record books: 

ANNA FREEMAN

• The Senior forward ranks as Applachian's all-time leader in career blocks (221), third in steals (310), fourth in rebounds (797), fourth in assists (353), fifth in field goals (547) and points (1492), and seventh in three-point field goals (124). 

• Freeman continues to climb the list of Appalachian's All-Time Scoring Leaders, having recorded 147 points so far this season to total her at 1,492 points career points. Freeman moves in to fifth place, just three points shy of the fourth spot held by all-time leader Shannon Thomas.  

• Freeman also earned an eigth place ranking among the Mountaineers' Single-Game Scoring Leaders, after tallying 36 points against Virginia Tech on November 14, as well as Single-Season Scoring Average Leaders, as she is averaging 21.0 points-per-game.

COURTNEY FREEMAN

• Became the 22nd member of Appalachian's 1,000 Point Club after scoring 24 points in the Georgia Southern Game.

• Just 70 field goals away from making App State's All-Time Career Field Goals list.

• Trails Beth Schoolfield (259) by 44 free-throws to earn her place among App's All-Time Career Free Throw Leaders. 

• With 528 to-date, Freeman is just 96 rebounds shy of joining the All-Time Career Rebounding List. 

KELSEY SHARKEY

• Needs just six more blocks (49)  to make her way on to the Apps' All-Time Career Blocks List.  

• Just 12 steals short of becoming tenth among Appalachian's All-Time Career Steals list. Melissa Davis currently holds the number ten spot with 147 steals.

• With 539 total rebounds, Kelsey needs 85 more to join the ranks of the Mountaineers' All-Time Career Rebounds Leaders.
