BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's track and field is set to travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the JDL Fast Track Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 2.

The Mountaineers come off a tough week of competition as they competed in the Kentucky Invitational last weekend where they saw five top-10 finishes.

The Black and Gold was paced by senior Amanda Hamilton in the 3,000m run as she finished six overall, while Kayla Schneider ran a personal-best 10:35.88 in the 5,000m run for a eighth-place finish.

Hamilton and junior Ana DeLeon both garnered Southern Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances in the Kentucky Invitational. Hamilton's 9:48.20 in the 3,000m run marks the best time for a SoCon performer this season, while DeLeon led the Apps in field events with a 16.20m throw in the weight throw.

Last year at the JDL Invitational, the Apps swept the podium in the pole vault as Chelsea Farr finished in first with a 3.80m jump, Cassie Crawford finished second with a 3.65m jump and Debra Domermuth finished in third with a 3.35m jump.

Appalachian earned three top-ten finishes in the shot put as senior Gayshawna Watkins finished in third overall, while Jasmine Suydam and Jocelyn Parnell finished seventh and ninth, respectively.

Watkins garnered the first place-finish in the weight throw with a 17.14m toss, while Suydam finished in fourth with a 14.85m throw.

The JDL Invitational gives athletes a chance to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships which will be held in March, as well as compete at one of the most premier indoor track and field facilities in the southeast.

Six Southern Conference schools will be traveling to Winston-Salem including, The Citadel, Davidson, Georgia Southern, UNCG, Western Carolina and Wofford.

Appalachian will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 9 when they conclude their road trip in Lynchburg, Va. at the Liberty Quad. The meet is slated to start at 4:30 p.m.
