BOONE, N.C. - With the Southern Conference on the horizon, Appalachian State University wrestling hits the road for its season finale at Davidson on Sunday, Feb. 24 at Belk Arena. The SoCon matchup is set for 1 p.m.

APPS SNAP LOSING STREAK

The Mountaineers tallied their sixth-straight victory over VMI with a 22-12 victory in Lexington, Va. on Wednesday. The win moves the Apps to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in the league as they are in a two-way tie with The Citadel in the conference standings. Chattanooga (3-0) and Campbell (5-1) sit atop of the standings with a dual pending between the league leaders on Monday.

App State captured six victories highlighted by redshirt freshman Zack Strickland's second period technical fall over Mike Logan. Strickland has now taken victories in six of his last seven bouts, which includes two major decisions, a pin and a technical fall.

THE APPALACHIAN LINEUP

Since entering the lineup against Campbell, Jake Johnson has earned the starting job at 184 pounds. Johnson, who started the season 1-6, has won four of his last five bouts and holds a perfect 4-0 SoCon mark. In his last bout, the Lexington, N.C. native earned a 3-2 decision over VMI's Jonathan Jones.

Breaking losing streaks against the Keydets were senior Brett Boston, redshirt sophomores Dominic Parisi and Paul Weiss and redshirt freshman Colin Hedash. Parisi and Hedash both tallied major decisions, helping the Mountaineers earn their 27th victory of the series against VMI.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

Davidson (6-13) sits in a three-way tie for sixth-place in the conference standings, holding a 1-4 record. The Wildcats look to break their own losing streak, dropping their last five duals.

Junior Scott Patrick (184) leads DC on the season with 15 wins, while Phillip Elias (125) follows with 11 wins and contributing 44 points on the year. Elias, who moved out of his listed weight class to 133, earned an 11-8 decision over No. 24 Sam Speno of NC State in Davidson's last outing.

THE SERIES

In a series that dates back to the 1979-80 season, Appalachian holds a 27-1 advantage over the Wildcats. Last season, the Mountaineers routed Davidson, 39-10, in the season finale to clinch the SoCon regular season championship.
