BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis was behind 3-1 in the match, but was able to rally a late comeback, winning the final three matches to notch a 4-3 win over SoCon foe Chattanooga Friday afternoon. With the win, the Apps improve to 9-15 on the season and 3-7 in the SoCon, while the Mocs fall to 7-14 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
The Black and Gold started the match off strong, as they won two out of three doubles matching earning the doubles point.
The team of Blakeley Bean and Lindsay King handily defeated their opponents at the number two spot, winning 8-3, while Olivia Stannard and Gisela Fernandez clinched the point for the Apps winning 8-3 at the number one position. Despite posting a solid effort, Laura Janke and Amanda Cash came up just short at the number three spot, falling 8-7 (7-3 in the tiebreaker).
The Mocs came out dominant in singles play, grabbing wins in the first three matches to take a commanding 3-1 advantage.
Cash lost at the number one spot in two sets, falling 6-0, 6-3, while Bean and King were also defeated at the number four and two spots.
ASU made a comeback, as Caroline Mauch was impressive at the number three spot, as the junior defeated Charlotte Bossy in three hard fought sets, while Heather Prior notched a win for the Apps at the number five spot winning 6-3, 7-6 to knot the match at three all.
In the match clincher, Fernandez came up big for the Mountaineers defeating Kate Ksiezopolski 6-4, 6-3 to give the Black and Gold the win.
