Southern Conference Tennis Tournament Pairings Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Southern Conference announced the 2009 SoCon tennis tournament seedings Sundaymorning. The tournament will take place April 23-26 in Elon, N.C. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center and at the Burlington Tennis Center.

The men's squad earned a No. 7 seed and will play No. 10 The Citadel on Thursday April 23 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, with the match set to begin at 1 p.m. The Mountaineers finished the regular sesason on a three-match winning streak and posted a record of 14-9 overal including a 5-5 SoCon mark. The Apps wrapped up its regular season last Thursday, handily defeating Davidson 7-0. In the lone meeting between the Bulldogs and the Mountaineers this season, the Black and Gold came away with a 7-0 win on The Citadel's home courts. The winner of the match will take on No. 2 Elon, Friday April 24 at 1 p.m.

In 2008, ASU made it to the semi-finals of the tournament, before falling to eventual champion Furman.

On the women's side, Appalachian earned a No. 8 seed and will play No. 9 Chattanoogaa in the first round. The match will take place April 23 at the Burlington Tennis Center and is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. The Apps are 9-15 on the season and posted a 3-7 mark in SoCon play, having narrowly defeated the Mocs 4-3 in ASU's final regular season match. The winner of the match will play No. 1 Furman at 9 a.m. on Friday April 24.
