SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Capping off an impressive senior season, Appalachian State University track and field standout Lily Tallent has been named the Southern Conference's field athlete of the month for April announced the league office Friday afternoon. This is the first award for Tallent.
The Cherryville, N.C. native posted a strong performance at the 2009 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as she captured her first-ever individual SoCon titles, winning the discus throw, javelin and shot put. Her performances earned her the Most Outstanding Athlete award and helped the Mountaineers complete a clean sweep of the indoor and outdoor titles and win their 16th crown in school history.
Tallent also moved into ASU's record books, as she moved into fifth on Appalachian's all-time list in the javelin throw and seventh on the App's all-time list in the shot put.
The physical education major will continue with the 2009 campaign, as she competes in all three events at the 2009 NCAA East Regionals in Greensboro, N.C. on May 29.
