Boruff Named First Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All District

BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University track and field standout Matt Boruff was named first team ESPN the Magazine Academic all-District for the second consecutive year announced CoSIDA on Thursday afternoon. Since Boruff was voted onto the first team, the Raleigh, N.C. native is now eligible for ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Boruff is the lone Southern Conference representative on the 14 - member first team in District III. He has been a standout performer for the Mountaineers during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. During the 2009 indoor campaign. the junior captured the SoCon title in the heptathlon for the second straight year and with his performance he shattered his previous school and SoCon record of 4720 points, setting a new record of 5021 points. He also helped lead the Apps to their 16th indoor title in school history. At the SoCon Outdoor Championships, he grabbed the runner-up titles in the 110m hurdles and pole vault.

Off the field, the Raleigh, N.C. native is majoring in marketing and management and boasts an impressive 3.68 grade point average.
