BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's golf added Beijing-native Yue Xu for the 2010 spring season, head coach Heather Brown announced on Tuesday.
"I am very excited to have Joy joining the Appalachian
program. I feel that she will be
an impact player for this program and her addition will compliment the current
roster who is coming off a successful fall," said Brown.
Xu spent 2008 at ITAGC International Golf Academy in Queensland, Australia, before winning the China Amateur Tournament in April 2009 with scores of 73-73-73. Her team finished third in the Buick ChinaGolf Club Tournament a month later.
Xu was a member of the China Junior national team member from 2002-05 and has been a member of the women's national team since then. She ranks third among amateur women in China with a best tournament round score of 66.
She placed first in numerous events in 2007, including three Beijing Amateur tournaments and the Faldo Series Asian Cup.
In 2006, she racked up five top-two finishes in her age group, including a pair of wins in China Citi Bank Junior Golf Challenge events.
ASU posted three top-six finishes in five tournaments over the fall season. The squad opens the spring on March 1-2 at the Campbell Spring Intercollegiate in Buies Creek, N.C.
