GREENVILLE, S.C. - Katy Dodd scored in the fourth minute and Caroline Clarke hung on to record a single-season school record tying seventh shutout to lead Appalachian State University women's soccer to a 1-0 win over Furman Sunday afternoon.

ASU improves to 6-8-4 overall and 3-4-3 in SoCon play and with the win knocks out Furman from postseason play.  The Paladins dropped to 10-7 overall and 4-6 in the Southern Conference.

Just 32 seconds into the match Chelsea McKie sent a shot for Furman that Clarke stopped.  Just over four minutes later, after a Furman foul, Lindsay Jaffe sent a tap pass to Dodd and she ripped a shot from the right to left corner.  The goal is Dodd's team-leading fourth of the season and the assist is Jaffe's third of the year.

Furman was able to get 21 shots off, but only six were on goal, all turned away by Clarke.  Four of her six saves came in the first half.

Meggie Graham led ASU in shots with three while Martha Hall, the second leading goal scorer in the SoCon, had six shots but had no shots on goal.

With her 18th start of the season, Leigh Morrow tied the ASU record for career starts with 75.  Morrow, who has started every game in her four-year career, is tied with Ashton Robinson for the record.

The win snaps ASU's seven game winless streak, as the Apps' went 0-4-3 during the streak.  Appalachian also snapped an eight-game losing streak to Furman, as the last time ASU beat Furman was in 2001.  It is ASU's third ever win over Furman and was the Mountaineers' first road conference win of the season.

The Mountaineers close out the regular-season on Friday when they travel to Western Carolina for a 7 p.m. match.
