CULLOWHEE - Appalachian State University women's soccer will look for its fourth SoCon win of the season in Friday nights season finale at Western Carolina at 6 p.m. An ASU win would give ASU its first .500 SoCon finish since 2006.
The Mountaineers are coming off a huge 1-0 win at Furman on Sunday. Katy Dodd scored her fourth goal of the season to give Appalachian its first win over the Paladins since 2001 and just its third win ever over FU.
About the Mountaineers
This is the first season ever that the Mountaineers have defeated Davidson and Furman in the same season. Appalachian is 6-8-4 overall and 3-4-3 in the Southern Conference.
The Apps are led offensively by Dodd, who has four goals and nine points on the season while Sydney Hill is second on the team with eight points. Lindsay Jaffe leads the team in assists with three.
Caroline Clarke tied the single-season school record with her seventh shutout of the season in the 1-0 win over Furman. She is tied for the SoCon lead in saves with 85 and is second with an .850 save percentage.
Seniors
The game will be the final one for six ASU seniors, Paige Morrow, Leigh Morrow, Caroline Lowe, Stephanie Balzano, Jennifer MacNeill and Emma White.
With a start on Friday, Leigh Morrow will break the school record for career starts with the 76th of her career. She will have started every game in her career.
Paige Morrow is third on the team in points with five, and will be tied for fifth in career games played with 75 and tied for sixth with 71 starts.
Lowe is ranked 10th in school history in goals and is tied for third in assists and is eight in points.
Balzano has started 17 games this season and has one assist while MacNeill has appeared in 15 games with an assist.
White has made 18 saves in three games in goal and fourth in school history with 146 saves and third with 10 shutouts.
About the Catamounts
Western Carolina comes in at 7-6-5 and is 4-3-3 in the SoCon. The 'Cats have won two-straight with wins over Furman and Wofford.
Rachael Shomper leads the team in points (4G, 3A) with 11 while Caitlin Williams has appeared in 18 games in goal, making 72 saves and has a 0.77 goals against average. She has not allowed a goal in the last 290 minutes.
