Men's Tennis Fares Well at Second Day of ITA Carolinas Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- Appalachian State University men's tennis continued with its impressive play Friday, as the Mountaineers carried on with their play at the ITA Carolinas Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C. ASU went 3-1 in singles action and 2-2 in doubles play against top-ACC foes and tough out-of-state opponents.

Peter Jacobs got the Apps started on a strong note, earning a two set, 6-4, 6-3 win over Dorian Sovic of Costal Carolina. Jacobs advances to the next singles flight tomorrow, as he will take on Clay Donato of UNC at 8:30 a.m.

Teammate Alain Humblet was victorious as well, as he beat Chris Sheehan of South Carolina 6-1, 6-2. The sophomore faces Chris Cooprider Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Sophomore Philip Kloc continued with the Mountaineers' winning ways, beating Kyle Parker of College of Charleston 6-1, 6-4. Kloc will play Torsten Wietoska of Duke tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Trent Constance suffered the Black and Gold's lone defeat in singles action, falling to Duke's Luke Marchese 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, the duo of Humblet and Kloc handed East Carolina's Bryan Oakely and Henrik Skalmerud an 8-4 loss, but then went on to fall to Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy of UNC in a tough 8-3 loss.

The team of Constance and Jacobs fell to the same fate of their teammates, edging Edgar Rodriguez and Jack Roux of USC Upstate, winning 8-5, before dropping an 8-2 decision to Boyajian/Noble of North Carolina.

Three Apps will be in action tomorrow in singles play, continuing singles action at the ITA Carolinas Regional.
