BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University volleyball announced another addition to its already impressive 2010 incoming class, as Virginia Tech transfer Alison Blasingame will join the Mountaineers for the upcoming season, announced head coach
Matt Ginipro Tuesday morning.
Blasingame, a 6-2 middle blocker, played two seasons at Virginia Tech under head coach Chris Riley. With the Hokies, she saw action in a total of 26 matches during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. During the 2008 campaign, Blasingame totaled 63 kills, along with ten blocks and hit .230 for the season. She set her career high in kills with 12 against Duke.
A true student-athlete, she was on the ACC academic honor roll and the dean’s list in 2009.
She is originally from Grafton, Va., and was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball at Grafton High School. During her junior year, she picked up first team all-Bay Rivers District honors, first team all-Region honors and was named to the all-state squad, while her team advanced to the final four.
In her senior season, she was tabbed as the Bay Rivers and Region I player of the year along with being named the Virginia AA State player of the year.
The Virginia native also broke the Virginia state record for kills in a season tallying 501 and the record for kills in a career with 1, 216.
Ginipro on Blasingame: “We’re very excited that Alison has decided to join the Mountaineer volleyball program,’” Ginipro said. “ I’ve known Alison for a long time and have been able to see how she’s grown over the years from the high school player that I worked with at camp to the collegiate player she is now. She brings us some more height to our middle hitter position along with two years of ACC volleyball experience under her belt. She was well coached at Virginia Tech, so we are looking forward to getting her in the gym and adding her skills to our program. What I’m especially happy with is that she was able to transfer to Appalachian for this spring semester so she can immediately get to work with her new teammates when we get started next week.”
ASU volleyball now has a total of four newcomers for next season’s team and will announce is 2010 schedule in late spring.
