SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Appalachian State University placed 28 student-athletes on the Southern Conference fall academic all-conference team, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

To be honored, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team’s competitions during the recently-concluded fall campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.

Football led the way with eight members, while volleyball placed six student-athletes on the team, and women's cross country and men's soccer placed four on the team, with men's cross country and women's soccer each having three on the squad. Football player Rod Chisholm was one of just ten student-athletes in the Southern Conference to boast a perfect 4.0 gpa and the only one from Appalachian State.

Around the conference, the league’s women’s soccer teams placed 79 student-athletes on the team with football adding 71. Elon led all schools with 39 honorees, followed by Wofford (38), Samford (29) and Appalachian State (28).
