Men's Basketball Wraps Up Road Trip at UNC Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Appalachian State University men’s basketball closes out a four-game road SoCon swing with a 7 p.m. matchup against UNC Greensboro. The game comes on the heels of ASU’s 89-77 win in Cullowhee, which snapped Western Carolina’s 15-game home winning streak.

ASU swept the season series from the division-leading Cats, which comes with the all-important tie breaker for tournament seeding. Appalachian is now 5-1 against North division opponents on the season.

The Series vs. UNC Greensboro
•The Mountaineers won the first game between the division rivals this season in Boone and hold a 17-15 lead in the all-time series.
• Appalachian has won two straight in the series to gain a 17-15 all-time advantage.
• The Mountaineers are 7-7 on the road in the series.
Donald Sims scored 21 points in the season’s first meeting and Jeremi Booth added 12.
• Sims averages 12.5 points per game against the Spartans for his career.
Buzz Peterson is 9-0 against UNC Greensboro.
• In last year’s game in Greensboro, the Apps came away with a 70-69 triumph after A.J. Highsmith knocked down the game-winning trey.
• The last time ASU played in the Greensboro Coliseum was a 78-62 loss to the Spartans in the 2000-01 season.

Scouting the Spartans
• UNC Greensboro has gone 2-3 since the last time the squads met, and is currently on a two-game skid.
• The Spartans rank fourth in the SoCon with 36.5 rebounds per game, including a league-leading 14.7 offensive boards.
• Ben Stywall averages a double-double with 14.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
• In addition to leading the league in rebounds and ranking seventh in scoring, the forward is also third in steals, with 1.7 per game.
• UNCG is 3-9 at home this season.

Following Monday's game, the Mountaineers return home to host Davidson on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in the Holmes Center.
