Junior Sam Ramirez was named the SoCon Player of the Week for the first time in her career Tuesday afternoon.

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Appalachian State University women's basketball player Sam Ramirez was tabbed as the SoCon Player of the Week announced the league office Tuesday afternoon. This is the first time Ramirez has earned the honor during her career with the Black and Gold and second time this season a Mountaineer was tabbed with the distinction.

The junior guard helped keep the Apps' winning streak alive, as she averaged 17.5 points in two games and shot 55 percent from behind the arc. The Fayetteville, N.C. native also dished out a total of eight assists to go along with four steals and four rebounds.

In ASU's 73-54 win over Elon on Saturday, Ramirez tallied 12 points, making her one of five Mountaineers to finish the game in double-figure scoring. She also went unblemished at the free throw line, shooting 6-for-6. Her efforts helped keep ASU spotless on the road against SoCon opponents, at 7-0.

Her impressive offensive performance carried through to Monday's game against Western Carolina, as she tied a career-high in points, pouring in 23 against the Lady Catamounts — including a 3-of-5 mark from three-point land — making her the only Mountaineer to hit a trey in the contest. Her 23-point effort helped propel ASU to its seventh-straight win and the season sweep over WCU.

Looking to keep its winning streak alive, Ramirez and the Mountaineers hit the road for two challenging conference tests. Appalachian's first stop is Chattanooga, Tenn., where the Apps will battle league-leader Chattanooga, Saturday February 13 in UTC's McKenzie Arena. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
