BOONE, N.C. -- After claiming the Southern Conference title for the fifth consecutive year Saturday, Appalachian State men's cross country jumped two places to 11th in the latest
USTFCCA Southeast regional poll, the association announced Monday.
The Mountaineers gained two spots in this week's poll after easily outdistancing Davidson and Elon en route to the program's eighth title in 10 years. Senior Phil Mitchell led the way at the SoCon meet, finishing fourth overall to take home first-team all-SoCon honors. Joining Mitchell on the first team were sophomore Sean Soderman (sixth place) and senior Alec Meyer (seventh place).
Senior Josh Houser was named to the second team after placing 10th overall, while Burk Staub and Brian Graves were named to the all-freshman team.
In addition, coach Mike Curcio was named SoCon Men's Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his career.
The Mountaineers will be off until November 14, when they travel to Louisville, Ky. to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships.
