SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Appalachian State University placed 21 student-athletes on the Southern Conference fall academic all-conference team, the league office announced on Thursday. To be honored, an athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA and must compete in at least half of their team's competition for the season.

Volleyball led the way with six members, while football placed five student-athletes on the team, and women's cross country had four members, with men's soccer placing three on the team, men's cross country two and women's soccer one. Women's cross country runner Dani Reese was one of just six student-athletes in the Southern Conference to boast a perfect 4.0 gpa and the only one from Appalachian State.

Around the conference, the league's women's soccer teams placed 71 student-athletes on the team, with football adding 54. Wofford led all schools with 44 honorees, followed by Elon with 35. A complete list of the SoCon fall all-academic team can be found at SoConSports.com.
