SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State University men's soccer player Cameron McCarthy was named a SoCon Postgraduate scholar, the conference office announced Friday. McCarthy is one of eight athletes to earn the honor, earning the Bob McCloskey Insurance graduate Scholarship for excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

A senior from Auckland, New Zealand, McCarthy played in 65 career matches for the Mountaineers, starting in 51. He recorded five career assists and was a part of 33 wins in his ASU career.

Academically, he posted a 3.95 grade point average while majoring in physical education with a minor in health education. McCarthy has earned numerous academic honors, including being named to ASU’s Chancellor’s List and Dean’s List as well as being a three-time selection to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

McCarthy and the seven other winners will be honored at the SoCon awards dinner in Hilton Head, S.C. on Wednesday May 27.
