BOONE, N.C. – For the second time this season, Appalachian State’s Darius Purcell has been named the Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Thursday.
Purcell, a sophomore from Fayetteville, N.C., was the top collegiate and second overall finisher in the high jump at last week's Liberty Open. His league-leading leap of 6-10.75 set a personal best and ranks fourth in school history.
Appalachian State track and field will enjoy a weekend off before returning to action next Friday and Saturday at the Akron Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
