JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Appalachian State women’s track and field was back in action Saturday in second-day competition at East Tennessee State’s Niswonger Invitational.

As was the case Friday, several Appalachian athletes posted season and personal best times against perhaps the toughest competition the Mountaineers have faced this season.

In the women’s 5000m, sophomores Kelsey Hanger and Hannah Orders led the Mountaineer contingency. Hanger’s time of 18:50.01 was good for 19h place overall, while Orders’ 18:53.19 landed her in 20th.  Freshman Sarah Williamson (18:55.59, 22nd overall), and junior Natalie Shaw (19:04.59, 24th overall) also had strong showings for the Apps in the 5000m.

Freshman Trinity Foreman took home a second-place finish in the 3000m run for the Apps Saturday. The Blacksburg, Va. native’s time of 10:26.18 is the top Mountaineer performance in the 3000m this season.

Senior Hannah Parks’ time of 10:36.22 in the 3000m invitational bracket was good for ninth place overall. Parks’ time also was her best of the 2009-10 indoor season.

Junior Kiara Crutchfield claimed an eighth place finish in the 60m hurdles. A day after posting a season-best time of 9.08 in the preliminaries, the Greensboro native followed up with a solid 9.11 Saturday.

The 4x400m relay team of Asia Dunlap, D'Shawrna McLucas, Nadia Liriano and Lynda Hiller had a nice day for the Mountaineers Saturday. The squad turned in a time of 3:57.44 to claim seventh place overall out of 32 teams.

Appalachian State track and field will return to action next weekend, travelling to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the Liberty Invitational.
