44 Student-Athletes Earn SoCon Spring Academic all-Conference Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Appalachian State University placed 44 student-athletes on the Southern Conference's Spring academic all-conference team announced the league office Wednesday afternoon. To be eligible, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the spring season.

Women's outdoor track and field led the way for the Apps with 14 members, while baseball placed nine student-athletes on the team, men's outdoor track and field had seven, softball placed five, women's golf four, men's golf and women's tennis two and men's tennis one.

Around the conference, the 320 student-athletes, which participated in men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's outdoor track and field, baseball and softball averaged a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Four student-athletes, all juniors carried a perfect 4.0 GPA into the spring semester, including Appalachian first baseman David Towarnicky. Among the various sports, the higest representation came from track and field with 113 overall athletes on the list.
