by Appalachian Sports Information September 1 - BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State field hockey grabbed their second win of the season at their home opener against Robert Morris. The Mountaineers defeated the Colonials 2-0, which moves them to a 2-1 record overall as Robert Morris falls to 0-2 on the season. ASU came out strong early and took the lead just five minutes into the first period. Freshman Nicole Morgan knotched a goal off an assist from sophomore Jessie Harris. Morgan is now leading the team in goals scored, with three so far this season. The rest of the first period was back and forth, but Appalachian took the 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second period of play Appalachian got on the board again, as senior Alicia Larkins scored off a deflected shot from Alison Gradischer. A second goal was all the Apps needed as they went on to win 2-0. The Colonials were led offensively by forward Gwen Dalphon who garnered two shots against the Mountaineers. On the defensive side, Colonial goakeeper Kate Dunlap had a total of eleven saves for the game. The Mountaineers will continue with their 2007 season on the road, as they head to Longwood University, and face Rider and conference foe Stanford, September 8 and 9. ![]() | STANDINGS
