by Appalachian Sports Information December 10, 2007 - BOONE, N.C. — Fans are invited to converge on Stadium Drive Tuesday night to help send off Appalachian State University football as it departs for Chattanooga in search of its unprecedented third-consecutive NCAA Division I Football national championship. Fans are asked to congregate at the Kidd Brewer Stadium Ticket Plaza (near The Rock at the Stadium Drive entrance to KBS) and on the sidewalks on both sides of Stadium Drive going towards Rivers Street beginning at 6:30 p.m. Following practice and a team meal in Owens Field House, the Mountaineers’ motorcade is expected to depart between 6:45 and 7 p.m. BROWN GRABS ANOTHER ALL-AMERICA HONOR: ASU offensive guard Kerry Brown claimed more all-America recognition on Monday when the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) named the 6-6, 310-pound offensive guard to its 2007 all-America team. Brown is one of just two Southern Conference representatives on the 25-member AFCA all-America team (joined by Georgia Southern’s Jayson Foster). Perhaps the player most conspicuous in his omission from the squad is Appalachian defensive back Corey Lynch, whose six interceptions, three blocked kicks and 103 tackles — all which rank among the SoCon and national leaders — apparently weren’t enough to impress the nation’s coaches. The all-America honor is the second in a matter of days for Brown, who grabbed Walter Camp all-America recognition along with Lynch over the weekend. A two-time Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner (presented annually to SoCon’s top offensive lineman), Brown helped pave the way for Mountaineer offense that ranks among the nation’s top 10 in total offense (483.5 ypg — second), rushing (282.4 ypg — third), scoring (42.3 ppg — third) and pass efficiency (157.66 — eighth). He was also a consensus first-team all-American as a junior in 2006. Later this week, the Associated Press and The Sports Network are expected to announce their 2007 all-America teams. THIS WEEK’S RADIO AFFILIATES: The Appalachian ISP Sports Network has nailed down its complete affiliate list for Friday’s national championship game broadcast. The call from the “Voice of the Mountaineers” David Jackson and ASU Hall-of-Famer Steve Brown can be heard on 14 stations whose signals combine to reach a six-state area across the Southeast.
