by Appalachian Sports Information January 9, 2008 - SPARTANBURG, S.C - Appalachian State University men's basketball will attempt to go for its third-straight win on Thursday evening when the squad faces Wofford at 7 p.m. at Benjamin Johnson arena. Appalachian, playing its third-straight game in the Palmetto State, makes the trek to Johnson Arena for the first time since the 2004-05 season and its third-straight game in the Palmetto State The Mountaineers have won two-straight and four of their last five games after defeating the College of Charleston and The Citadel last Thursday and Saturday, respectively. The two wins evened ASU’s SoCon ledger at 2-2 and improved the overall record to 7-6. Donte Minter enjoyed his stay at sea level with back-to-back double-doubles in ASU’s victories. In the win at CofC he finished one point shy of a season high with 19 points to go along with a then career-high 11 rebounds. Two days later he pulled down 13 rebounds and added 11 points to defeat The Citadel. On the season, Minter leads the Apps with 12.5 points and 6.5 boards per game. Kellen Brand and upstate South Carolina native Donald Sims trail closely with 10.2 points per outing. Wofford enters Thursday’s game at 8-5 overall and 1-2 in league action with losses to Elon and Chattanooga to temper a win over UNC Greensboro. The Terriers are also winners of four of their last five games. Shane Nichols leads Wofford with 16.1 points per game while Drew Gibson adds 10.8 points per contest. The Terriers are the top three-point shooting squad in the league, converting on 42.5 percent of their three-point shots. Following the Wofford contest, the Mountaineers return home for the first time in nearly a month to host UNC Greensboro in what should be a critical game in the SoCon North Division race. ![]() | STANDINGS
