by Appalachian Sports Information February 15, 2008 - Appalachian State University men's basketball will wrap up a grueling five-game in 10-day stretch Saturday when its faces North Division rival UNCG. Tipoff at the Spartan's Fleming Gym is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Mountaineers will be looking to rebound from Thursday’s 76-70 loss at Elon to fall to 16-9 overall and 11-5 in league play. However, thanks to Chattanooga’s loss at Coll. of Charleston, the Apps remain a full game ahead of the Mocs for first place in the North Division. Donte Minter is coming off three-straight 20-point performances after scoring 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting in Thursday’s loss. Minter is leading the squad with 14.4 points per game on 59.6 percent shooting. Donald Sims and Kellen Brand are also averaging double-figures with 12.2 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. ASU has won seven on its last 10 games and hasn’t dropped back-to-back games since Dec. 1. The team is also just four wins away from recording back-to-back 20-win season for the first time since 1999-2000. UNCG fell to 13-10 overall and 7-7 in league play after falling to Davidson at home on Wednesday, 83-78, for the team’s fourth-straight loss. The Spartans saw a 20-point first-half lead evaporate with Kyle Hines’ 27 points and 12 boards leading UNCG. Hines is averaging 19.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game for the Spartans who have won three-straight games against ASU on their home floor. After battling UNCG, the team will finally get a brief repreive and rest before returning to the Holmes Center to face Furman on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. ![]() | STANDINGS
