by Appalachian Sports Information March 29, 2008 - COLUMBIA, S.C. - Appalachian State women's track's Charlotte Walsh took home first place in the 3000-meter Steeplechase with a personal-best 11:56.33. The time ranks her seventh in the ASU record book. Several other Mountaineers had top-ten finishes as well at South Carolina's Weems Baskins Invitational on Saturday. Stephanie Payne took home third in the steeplechase at 12:43.44. In the 100-meter dash, Ashley McKiver placed ninth with a run of 11.89. The time is a personal-best, and moves McKiver into eighth place on the ASU career list. Kiara Crutchfield placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.81. Victoria Rosa placed 14th in the 400-meter dash, at 61.62, while Jasmine Thompson was on her heels at 62.93 for 17th place. In the 400-meter hurdles, Michelle Brutus finished fifth at 1:02.90, just a second off her best time, set a week ago. Dani Reese ran a 2:17.55 in the 800-meter dash, good for a third-place finish in the event. Kala Robertson placed fifth in the event, with a 2:18.96 mark. Anna Baker was ninth at 2:24.88. Three Mountaineers placed in the top seven in the high jump, as Julie Ward leapt 5-feet 3-inches for third place and Bridgette Hills and Rebecca Hazeltine each reached the 5-1 mark for a seventh-place tie. In the long jump, Bianca Harvey placed fourth at 18-1 while Crutchfield was fifth at 18-0.25. Danielle Thorpe was seventh at 17-6.25. In the throws, Brittani Williams placed second in the shot put at 43-4.5 and third in the hammer throw at 157-9.75. Lily Tallent finished third in the javelin throw with a mark of 119-10 and sixth in the shot put at 37-9.5. In the relays, the women's A team placed fifth with a time of 47.94 while the B team ran a 49.50 for seventh place. The team returns to action next weekend at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. |
