Johnson Leads ASU at Furman Invitational

March 31, 2008 - GREENVILLE, S.C. ­— Appalachian State University men’s golf placed 20th among 24 teams at the Furman Invitational, hosted by Furman at Furman University Golf Course. The tournament was held Friday through Sunday with three rounds of play.

The Mountaineers were led by Casey Johnson, who tied for 42nd among 131 participants. Johnson finished at ten-over-par (76-73-77), just 13 strokes behind the individual winner, Jonathan Hodge from Chattanooga.

Taylor Hines (79-79-77; t-96), Jacob Eggers (85-75-76; t-101), Lance Wheeler (77-77-86; 120), and Jake Wiesehan (80-83-79; t-122) rounded out the scoring for ASU. The team finished 20th (312-304-309), 51 strokes behind the tournament champion Chattanooga.

The men will continue their play Monday and Tuesday at the Vault Wofford Invitational, hosted by Wofford College. The tournament is being held at the Carolina Country Club, in Spartanbud, S.C..
