by Appalachian Sports Information April 14, 2008 - BOONE, N.C.- Four field hockey players have committed to Appalachian State for the 2008 season, announced head coach Brandi Alexander Monday afternoon. The incoming players consist of four freshman, hailing from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Missouri. KELLY ALLABAND- Comes to ASU from Elkton, Md., where she attended Rising Sun High School. At Rising Sun, Allaband earned three varsity letters in field hockey and three in lacrosse. She has been a part of a very successful high school program, as her team was the Maryland 1A State finalist in 2005 and captured the state championship in both 2006 and 2007, as well as winning three straight regional championships from 2005-07. The Maryland native plays club ball for the PH Strikers Quest, and has helped to lead her team to two National Indoor Championships. KELSEY DORSET- Comes to Appalachian from North Potomac, Md., where she went to Quince Orchard High School. The midfielder/forward was a multi-sport athlete in high school, earning four varsity letters in field hockey, four in track and field, two in lacrosse and one in cross country. She was also the captain of her high school team her senior year, and in 2006, guided her team to a Maryland 4A State championship. Dorset plays club field hockey with the Washington Wolves, where she is the captain for the 2007-08 season. She has helped her team win four National indoor titles from 2004-08. She also participated with the Futures program from 2003-08. LAUREN KLOEPPINGER- Joins Appalachian from St. Louis, Mo., where she attended Cor Jes Academy. During her high school career, she earned three varsity letters in soccer and two in field hockey. Kloeppinger earned honorable mention honors as a junior and second team all-metro honors as a senior. She was also named to the senior All-Star team and voted MVP and captain her senior year. BRIDGETTE STREET- Joins the Mountaineers from Stillwater, Penn., where she went to Benton Area High School. The goalkeeper earned two varsity letters in softball and four in field hockey during her high school career. As a senior, she was named to the Field Hockey Mid-Penn coach’s first team, while earning second team honors her junior and sophomore seasons. The Pennsylvania native also garnered Press Enterprise honors as a senior and sophomore, and was named honorable mention her junior year. She posted 23 shutouts throughout her high school career. Street has also been a Futures participant for five years, along with taking part in the 2007 National Futures Tournament. Alexander on the incoming freshman class: “We are very much looking forward to having this strong incoming class to add to our program. All four have the potential to come in and have a significant impact for our fall season. Lauren and Bridgette will add to our experienced back field and we will be looking to Kelly and Kelsey to help with our offensive efforts. Our team has developed tremendously over this spring and all four student-athletes will only enhance our skill and drive to really be competitive, especially with in our conference this season.” ![]() | STANDINGS
