by ASU Sports Information April 30, 2008 - BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State women’s soccer has added 15 players for the 2008 season, announced head coach Ben Popoola on Wednesday. The new class of players will join a Mountaineer squad that finished last season, 10-6-3 including an eight game unbeaten streak to open the year. “I’m very excited about this great class,” said Popoola. They are all very talented and will contribute significantly to strengthen our team in conjunction with our great returning players.” Jordi Behrens is a midfielder from Cypress Bay H.S. in Weston, Fla. Behrens was named the most improved player last year at Cypress Bay. She played club soccer at Weston Fury alongside several future teammates at ASU. Adrienne Biles is a freshman striker from Lexington, Ky. Biles earned all-state, all-region, all-district and all-city honors at Paul Laurence Dunbar H.S. In her senior season she scored 14 goals and made six assists en route to the team MVP and best offensive player awards. Mary Dorn is a defender from West Bruswick H.S. in Shallotte, N.C. She earned all-conference, all-region and all-county honors and a team MVP award at West Brunswick. She also played for Wilmington Academy where she earned MVP honors at the Tampa Sunbowl and was selected for the ODP National Camp. Katy Dodd is a defender from Apex, N.C. Playing at Apex H.S., she earned all-conference honors as a junior and captured the 2007 State Championship. Her club team, ’89 Triange Futbol Club Navy won the 2006 NCYSA State Championship and was runner-up in 2007. Amanda Goldberg is a forward from Hollywood, Fla. A product of St. Thomas Aquinas H.S., Goldberg earned offensive MVP honors playing for the alma mater of ASU assistant coach Hallie Briggs. Amber Hill is a Midfielder from Jefferson, Ga. Playing at Madison County H.S., she scored 31 goals and 12 assists in her career. She also played for the Athens United club team, serving as captain for the last four years. She also attended the USL National ODP Camp in 2007. Jordan Horvath joins the Mountaineers from Lanser H.S. in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. A 5’5” midfielder, Horvath tallied all-district, all-conference and all-state honors in her tenure at Lanser. She played her club soccer for the Michigan Hawks. Mandy Lightner is an attacking midfielder from Fletcher, N.C. A product of AC Reynolds H.S. in Asheville, N.C., Lightner led her team with 14 goals and 19 assists in her junior year. She also played at the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy, scoring five goals and 11 assists in the fall of 2007. Nicole Martinez is a defender from Miami, Fla. She played at Gulliver Prep, earning all-county honors as well as a spot on the district and state all-star teams. As a senior, she scored six goals and collected three assists off the back line and helped on 14 shutouts. Playing for Weston Fury, she won the Orange Classic and finished second at the Score at the Shore alongside two fellow ASU recruits. Emily Mosley is a defending midfielder from Coral Springs, Fla. At Coral Springs, H.S., Mosley earned all-county honors as well as a spot on the South Florida All-Star team. Playing for coach Pat Johnston on the Weston Fury, Mosley reached the State Cup Final Four. Jordan Robinson is a center midfielder from Candler, N.C. Playing at Enka H.S., she earned all-conference and all-state honors a year ago with 13 goals and 23 assists. Robinson also earned team MVP honors as a sophomore and junior, leading the team in goals and assists each year. Hannah Rosenbaum joins the Mountaineers from Atlanta, Ga. She played at Grady High School, scoring 14 goals as a junior to earn all-city honors. She played club soccer for the Concorde Fire Elite squad. Kaity Ruhland is a freshman forward from Liberty High School in Bealton, Va. Two-year team captain at Liberty; earning first team all-district as a sophomore and junior. She led her team in goals scored as a sophomore. Ashley Scott comes to ASU after a year at Gardner-Webb. Scott played eight games in goal for the Bulldogs, posting a 1-4-1 record with a 1.96 goals against average. Earned her first win and shutout against USC-Upstate. She played for Reidsville High School, earning all-state, all-region, all-area and all-district honors in 2007. Lydia Sturgis is an outside midfielder from Alexander, N.C. She played at AC Reynolds H.S., earning all-conference and all-region honors twice. Her club team won tournaments in High Point, Atlanta, Charleston, Savannah and Norcross, posting a 28-3-1 record. | STANDINGS
