Paul Mance to be Honored for Lifetime Service to Wrestling

May 5, 2008 - BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State’s head wrestling coach Paul Mance will be honored by the North Carolina Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for his lifetime service to the wrestling. Joining the Class of 2008, Mance will be permanently recognized at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in Stillwater, Okla.

Mance, a six-time SoCon Coach of the Year, completed his 32nd year as head coach at Appalachian State this spring. With a 341-203-10 career record at Appalachian, Mance has coached 86 SoCon Champions, 18 NCAA At-Large Qualifiers, three NCAA All-Americans, two Olympians and five SoCon Wrestlers of the Year.

Coach Mance is a native of Alexandria Bay, N.Y., he competed for the Mountaineers from 1965-69 and earned varsity letters in Wrestling, Soccer as well as Track and Field. In 1969, Mance was a participant at the NAIA National Wrestling Championships.

The formal recognition will be held on Sunday, May 18 in Chapel Hill, N.C. at the Annual Hall of Fame Day Banquet. Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. at which Mance and the four other lifetime service honorees will be recognized.
